With school commute-related accidents involving children becoming a growing concern and nearly 2 lakh+ vehicles crowding roads during peak school hours, Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in association with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) launched the Student Mobility Programme, aimed at easing congestion, improving safety and ensuring compliance in student transportation.
A Personal Message from the Commissioner
Dear Parent, I know what the school run can feel like in Cyberabad, the rush at the gate, the traffic, the worry and the hope that your child gets to school safely every morning. I see it, and I want to listen to you directly.
Please join me on 29th May at 11:00 AM so we can talk honestly about your child's daily commute, what concerns you, what is working, and how we can make it better together.
โ Dr. M. Ramesh, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad
Hyderabad: Cyberabad police commissionerate, in collaboration with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), held a large-scale orientation programme at IEI ESCI Centenary Convention Centre, Hyderabad, with over 750 representatives from 500 educational institutions. The initiative aims to address congestion, compliance, safety, and affordability in student transport across Cyberabad.
Senior officials, civic authorities, transport bodies and education representatives came together to address school commute safety.
Commissioner M. Ramesh highlighted that nearly 2 lakh vehicles crowd school zones within a 15-minute window during peak hours, surpassing IT corridor rush levels. He emphasised the risks of unsafe driving, accidents, and miscommunication among parents, noting the broader impact on children's well-being. He described the initiative as a long-term civic mobility reform, integrating schools, operators, parents, and civic authorities through a technology platform. The plan includes compliance requirements for vehicles and opportunities for gig workers, ASHA, and Anganwadi workers in last-mile connectivity.
"Student safety begins the moment a child leaves home. The Serilingampally Municipal Corporation will work closely with Cyberabad Police and SCSC to ensure effective implementation at the ground level."
Aparna Kalyani, Deputy Regional Manager, TGSRTC
"RTC is prepared to collaborate with institutions to provide coordinated, safe transport solutions for students."
Ramarao, Mandal Vidya Shakha Officer
"Road safety awareness must become part of students' upbringing โ accidents increasingly involve children."
Naved Khan, CEO, SCSC
Presented survey findings from 526 institutions covering 4.1 lakh students, highlighting that 80% of schools offer transport but only 30% of students use it.
The event was attended by senior police officials, TGSRTC representatives, civic authorities, RTA officials, education department representatives and transport operators.
If you have ever navigated the school gate rush, worried about your child's safety on the road, or hoped there could be a better way, I want to hear from you directly.
